ONE VINCE STREET GRANTED APPROVAL
Planning consent has recently been granted at committee for our 14 storey office development just off Old Street, London. Set on a very constrained site, the building will act as a wayfinder when navigating along the primary arterial axis between the contrasting Shoreditch and Old Street settings. The elongated form seeks to mediate between the 'old’ and the ‘new’ architecture of the respective settings through its striking form, materiality and detailing.
WARLIES PARK HOUSE ESTATE COMMISSION
We are proud to have been appointed for a development project set within the historic grounds of Warlies Park House Estate, a prestigious Grade II Listed mansion near to Epping Forest, which during the late 19th Century became the social centre for upper class of West Essex. We look forward to providing updates on this project.
AJ RETROFIT & REUSE AWARDS SHORTLIST
We are pleased to announce we have been shortlisted for the AJ Retrofit and Reuse Awards 2024 for our works at Brackenwood Lodge- the adaptation and re-use of an abandoned Atcost barn into an environmentally conscious home in the settlement of Lippitts Hill, Epping Forest. GREEN BELT NEW BUILD PLANNING PERMISSION
Set within the historic grounds of St Ebba’s Hospital, planning approval has been granted for an new single-storey, sustainably efficient dwelling in place of an existing dwelling and outbuildings. By reason of siting, scale, massing and height, the proposal results in a significant reduction in visual impact on its Green Belt setting. A creative form influenced by its surroundings and articulated with a soft palette of sustainable materials, the proposal reflects high standards of architectural design significantly enhances the immediate setting.
WESTMINSTER HOTEL APPROVAL
Approval has been granted for the refurbishment, facade upgrade and roof extension to an existing Victorian end of terrace property along an arterial transport route in Westminster Borough. The overall dwelling’s architectural appearance has been upgraded in an authentic manner through the introduction of traditional shopfront, window, and mansard roof detailing to provide improved facilities to the existing hotel use.

INVERNESS TERRACE
Over the past 18 months, Kyson has been working on a Grade II listed building in Inverness Terrace, in the Queensway area of West London. This challenging refurbishment project has seen Kyson submit over 25 tranches of drawn information for the discharge and approval of details to the ‘parent’ Listed Building Consent. We have steadfastly been working through these submissions to communicate the design intent for refurbishing this listed building, converting it from an HMO into 5 Super Prime residential units. Through this process, Kyson has re-established the orginal wall lines and negotiated the removal of modern elements of construction, helping to once again reveal the historic features of this beautiful building.
GLENTHORNE ROAD SUCCESS
We are pleased to announce our latest planning approval for a 21 room hotel in Hammersmith. The proposal sees the restoration and redevelopment of five Victorian terraces into a boutique hotel along Glenthorne Road. We have worked closely with Hammersmith & Fulham planning department to develop the proposals, bringing life and purpose back to these locally listed Buildings of Merit.
KYSON PROMOTIONS
As the practice continues to move from strength to strength Studio Kyson are pleased to announce that Alan Hardy, Kyle Watts and John Chia have recently been promoted to Director, Director and Senior Architect respectively. Congratulations to all three and we wish them well as they take up their new roles and we are excited to see the practice expand and develop even further as a result.
Private RESIDENCE - HEATH DRIVE
We are pleased to have reached practical completion on our refurbishment project of the Grade II listed Charles Quennell dwelling in Hampstead.
This project presents the careful juxtaposition between contemporary design and building heritage. The restoration, renovation and extension to the house was undertaken, including full basement excavation to provide new leisure and gym facilities. The project required careful consideration at each stage to ensure the integrity of the historic fabric and design intent was retained, whilst also meeting the client’s requirements for modern day living.
SUMMARY OF WORKS 2023
2023 has been a year of considerable growth for the practice, with projects including hotels, offices and high-end residences. We have expanded our work in the Green-belt exponentially and continued our work in the education and sports sectors. Notable achievements include the completion of the refurbishment and extension of a Grade II Listed mansion house in Hampstead, planning approval for a 22 unit residential scheme in Enfield and planning submission for a largescale office development in Old Street. With lots more projects scheduled for 2024 we look forward to what the New Year brings!
WE ARE HIRING
Studio Kyson is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic part II Architectural Assistant with excellent design skills to join our Shoreditch studio.
Suitable candidate will have qualified at a UK based University and demonstrate very strong design skills along with an excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and Sketch-up. They will have a good communication and presentation skills along with the ability to work autonomously and a throughout knowledge of UK planning and building regulations. Previous experience working in an architectural practice is a necessity. Experience working on the technical stages of project would be advantageous.
For both roles, successful candidates will develop their skillset working on a variety of projects ranging from high-end private houses, boutique hotels and office projects.

Success in the Crimple Valley
Today we celebrate the design for our latest countryside dwelling, set in Yorkshire’s Crimple Valley, being granted planning permission. This project seeks to both reflect the architecture of the local historic vernacular whilst also presenting itself as a building that is of its own time.
LINCOLN ROAD MIXED-USE DEVELOPMENT APPROVAL
Following a lengthy planning process we are pleased to announce the approval of our mixed use development on the corner of Bush Hill Park, Enfield. Comprised of retail, public house and 23 residential units, the development plays an integral role in the local setting, mediating between low level Victorian terraced houses, and a 4 storey late twentieth century housing estate. The proposal acts as a focal point and local landmark along the arterial Lincoln Road.
REPTON PARK PERMISSION GRANTED
Kyson has completed a proposal for rear extension and loft conversion of a family house in Repton Park, Woodford Green. The new extension accommodates living areas and kitchen. External seating area spilling into the garden is incorporated within the design. Soft colour sandstone is proposed for the façade to tie in with the Victorian buildings within the wider estate.
Beaumont Court Extension Approved
It is not often we get to work on Art Deco buildings in London. We have recently achieved planning on this 1930’s residential block in Clapton, North London for a roof top extension which incorporates many of the classic Art Deco features.
2022 Summary of Works
The past 12 months has seen Studio Kyson expand in both portfolio and workforce. We have taken on several portfolio projects across the hospitality, residential and workplace sectors. We have developed a 40,000sqft office development in Hackney, a 44 room boutique hotel in Swiss Cottage and a large private dwelling in the Crimple Valley, amongst others. We have recently started conceptual work on a new Science and Sports development for a school in Hertfordshire and look forward to progressing this throughout 2023.
EDUCATION SECTOR: SPORTS & STEM BUILDING DESIGN PROGRESS
Studio Kyson is excited to announce it has been working on the concept design for a new state of the art sports pavilion and STEM building at a prestigious Prep School in Hertfordshire. This development forms a key part of the school’s long-term masterplan for future development, growth and educational excellence. Set within beautiful rural grounds, here is a taster of one of the key external spaces linking the two buildings. We look forward to sharing more as the project progresses.
